2009 Current Obituaries Earnest Martin Sr. Martin, Earnest Sr., 86, of Jacobsburg, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Liza’s Place in Wheeling. He was born January 16, 1923 in Bellaire, Ohio, son of the late Dexter Clayton “D.C.” Martin and Mamie Jackson Martin. Earnest was retired from Ohio Ferro Alloys in Brilliant, Ohio and from Ohio University’s Eastern Campus and he was a member of the Neffs United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, E. Gertrude Hines Martin; three children, Dianna (Chuck) Moskey of St. Clairsville, Dexter (Rosy) Martin of Jacobsburg and Ernie (Ruthie) Martin Jr. of Belmont; a sister, Leona Lendon of Lansing; 8 grandchildren, Amy (Scott) St. Clair, Tami (Jim) Pitcher, Lisa (Ryan) Clark, Kayla Moskey, Tracy (Alan) Amos, Joby Martin, April (Mike) Chambers and Jamie (Tia) Martin; and 11 great grandchildren, Alexis and Alec St. Clair, Madison and Morgan Pitcher, Taylor and Zachary Clark, Justin and Brooke Amos, Myah Martin, Mahala and Ryan Smith. Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Jacobsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Liza’s Place, Valley Hospice, 308 Mount St. Joseph’s Rd., Wheeling, WV 26003.
Paul “Warren” Taylor Taylor, Paul “Warren”, 88 of Jacobsburg, Ohio died Monday, June 29, 2009 at his home. He was born August 22, 1920 in Jacobsburg, a son of the late Samuel Burton Taylor and Leota Briggs Taylor. Warren was a retired construction worker, former employee of Smith Township, a farmer, a Methodist by faith, and member of Laborer’s Local Union #1149. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jo Ellen Taylor; a grandson, Don Wayne Taylor; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are his wife, Delores M. Higgins Taylor; nine sons, Warren Terry Taylor of Washington, Greg Taylor of Bridgeport, Roger Taylor of Belmont, Larry Taylor of Neffs, Paul Wayne “Crow” Taylor of Bellaire, Johnny Taylor of Jacobsburg, Brent Taylor of St. Clairsville, Mark Taylor of Piketon, Ohio, and Tim Taylor of Bridgeport; two daughters, Sharon Yoss of Belmont and Valerie Marbais of Georgia; 33 grandchildren and 57 great grandchildren. Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Wednesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. where services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jack Palmer officiating. Burial follows in Jacobsburg Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Hospice or Jacobsburg United Methodist Church.
Geneva E. White White, Geneva Elizabeth, 86, of Flushing, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Ohio Valley Medical Center. She was born on June 14, 1923 in Wheeling, West Virginia, daughter of the late John George Lasch and Frances Cleveland Blatchley Lasch. She was retired from the former Hillview Nursing Home in Flushing and the former Belmont County Home in St. Clairsville and a member of the Flushing Christian Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Dixon White and a sister, Henrietta Kuhn. Surviving are three sons, John L. (Jean) White of Flushing, Dwayne Edward (Bonnie) White of New Athens, and Eugene S. (Debbie) White of Seneca, South Carolina; a daughter, Henrietta J. White of Flushing; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter expected in July. Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m., with Earl Bailey and Loran Dace officiating. Loure Barnes Barnes, Elsie Loure, 90 of Methodist Ridge, St. Clairsville, Ohio loving wife, mother and grandmother, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at her home. She was born at Beatrice, WV on February 6, 1919 a daughter of the late Everett D. and Avis L. Haught Lamp. Loure was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Christ at St. Clairsville and former member of the Belmont County Extension Homemakers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Phillip “Butch” Barnes; her loving granddaughter, Tara Tuttle; brothers, Denver and Duane Lamp and sister Dorothy Byers. She is survived by 5 generations of loving family including her children, Dave (Sandy) Barnes of Bellaire, Dale (Doris) Barnes of Bellaire, Don (Kathie) Barnes of Neffs, Dan (Debbie) Barnes of Bellaire, Diana (Randy) Barack of St. Clairsville, Debbie (Rick) Picetti of Lansing and Doris (George) Starkey of Stewartsville; brothers and sisters, Helen Rogers of Canton, OH; Jack Lamp of Massillon, OH; Bob Lamp of Brewster; OH; Dan Lamp of Coshocton, OH; Roger Lamp of Canton, OH; Judy Carpenter of Columbus, OH and Larry Lamp of Coshocton, OH; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. where services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. with Everett Hutson officiating. Judith R. McFarland McFarland, Judith R., 71 of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at her home. She was born at Martins Ferry, Ohio on August 5, 1937 a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Dull Bennington. Judy was a retired employee of the Belmont County Department of Human Services and a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church at St. Clairsville. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son Bruce McFarland. She is survived by her husband, Howard A. McFarland; sons, Douglas S. McFarland of St. Clairsville and Howard J. McFarland of Chicago, IL; a sister, Joanne McFarland of West Monroe, LA; a brother, Bruce Bennington of Bradenton, FL and grandsons, C. Tyler McFarland and Devin Scott McFarland. Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Donna Kraus officiating. Evelyn Mae Armann Brooks Brooks, Evelyn Mae Armann, 92, of Beallsville, Oh., died June 15, 2009, in Barnesville Hospital. She was born November 27, 1916, daughter of the late Everett Armann and Vida Wheeler Armann. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Brooks; three brothers, Oscar Wheeler, Roy Armann, and John Armann; four sisters; Lodema Brooks, Margaret Brooks, Lois Loomis, and Jean Galavich; and two grandchildren, Guy David Simmons and Melissa Leigh Riley. Surviving are three daughters, Donna (Tom) Hyland of Centreville, Va., Joyce (David) Simmons of Jackson, Oh., and Terri (Audie) Bednarczyk of Powhatan Point, Oh.; six grandchildren, Stephen (Jennifer) Hyland of Fairfax, Va., Timothy (Jan) Hyland of Leesburg, Va., Lori (Matt) Simmons Stalter of Schererville, Ind., Merry Beth (Allen) Hyland Hall of Montpelier, Va., Amanda (Mike) Simmons Aring of Los Angeles, Cal., and Scott Riley of McMechen, W. Va.; and four great grandchildren, Matthew and Katy Stalter of Schererville, Ind., Brett Hyland of Leesburg, Va., and Emma Aring of Los Angeles, Cal. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg where services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Marian Glass officiating. Burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.
