Charles George “Chico” Godaway, 80, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died May 23, 2026, in Park Health Center, St. Clairsville.
He was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio on January 24, 1946, the son of the late Andy Godaway and Agnes Ballog Godaway.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Stanley (Patricia) Godaway.
A graduate of St. Clairsville High School in 1964, Chico went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1967. He loved Serving his Lord and Saviour, and he enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. Charles was a retired supervisor and coal miner from the former Hanna Coal Company’s Rose Valley Mine near Cadiz and worked at the former Saginaw Mining Company’s Mine in St. Clairsville. He was a member of the American Legion Post 159 in St. Clairsville and a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville.
Chico is survived by a niece, Michelle (Michael) Reams of Plantersville , Texas; a nephew, Stanley "Tony" (Debbie) Godaway of Willis, Texas; great nieces, Taylor (Greg) Godaway Kanagy, Sydney (Ricky) Schutter and Katie Reams; and three great-great nephews, Abraham Stanley Godaway Kanagy, Magnus James Godaway Kanagy and Theodore Anthony Godaway Kanagy; many cousins and countless friends.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, June 6th from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, with Father Thomas Chillog the celebrant. The burial will follow in Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, with Full Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home.
