Cheryl "Cheri"
Wright
January 5, 1955 – May 23, 2026
Cheryl (Cheri) Darlene (Frye) Wright (71), of Wheeling, West Virginia, passed away suddenly in Wheeling, West Virginia on Saturday, May 23, 2026. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. The love of her life, Warren Wayne Wright, Jr., predeceased her in December of 2025.
Cheri was born on January 5, 1955 in Bremerton, Washington and was the daughter of the late Gary L. Frye, Sr. and the late Darlene M. Frye. Her parents raised her all over the world as an army brat which included the United States, Germany and the Azores. She graduated from Lajes High School in 1973 and met the father of her children in the Azores.
Cheri raised her family in Somerville, Massachusetts and worked as a customs broker before marrying Warren and relocating to West Virginia. While in Wheeling, she worked for Michaels craft store and St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, before her final retirement. Together Cheri and Warren enjoyed their life, home, thrifting, yard sales and caring for stray animals that were fortunate enough to find their way into their hearts.
She enjoyed spending time with her three children, her grandchildren who affectionately called her Nonni, and her extended family. She loved crafting of all kinds and encouraged her children and grandchildren to do the same. She would repurpose and find new life in the simplest of objects: fabric, buttons, and glitter were common within her crafts. She found joy in sending “Nonni boxes” to her grandchildren, full of surprises and love, as a way to stay connected long-distance. She would also spend hours with them via video chat, listening to their stories, and watching them play, as if she were right there beside them. Cheri would light up a room with her smile and laughter, and she struck up a conversation with anyone she encountered. Her friendliness was her greatest gift. She will be greatly missed as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
It is with a heavy heart and deepest felt sadness that she leaves behind her children, Marco Abreu and his wife Lauren, Amanda Abreu and her husband John Younker, and Micah Wright and his wife Katherine. Her daughter, Sara (Abreu) Souza, predeceased her. She also leaves behind her 11 grandchildren: Neondre, Lennon, Chris, Sean, Xavier, Jaxon, June, Julien, Isaac, Lucia, and Adele. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her brother, Randall Frye of Laconia, New Hampshire and her sister, Morgen Frye of West Boylston, Massachusetts. She is also grieved by her extended family: Ray (Joanne) Wright, Inez (Carlo) Manini, Millie (Willard) Woryk, Martha Wright, Armando Abreu, Nerly Garin, and Brian Souza.
At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours and no funeral services. If you would like to honor Cheri’s life, the family suggests performing an act of kindness in her memory.
