Charlotte Louise Slavik, 89, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died on May 8, 2026, at Liza’s Place, in Wheeling, WV. She was born February 26, 1937, in Holloway, Ohio, to Ida (Agosti) Vincenzo and Florian H. Vincenzo.
Charlotte was a proud graduate and valedictorian of the Holloway High School Class of 1955. She married the love of her life, John “Zeke” Slavik, in 1958, and they lived nearly all their married life in a house that they proudly built themselves in St. Clairsville. Charlotte spent her days devoted to raising their four children and volunteering her time and talents in various organizations throughout their school years. She especially loved her time as the cheering coach at St. Mary’s School and as the children’s choir director at St. Mary’s Church. She was also an active member of the Red Devil Moms. Charlotte worked for many years as the bookkeeper for the family construction company, F. H. Vincenzo & Sons, founded by her father in 1918. She was retired from the St. Clairsville-Richland City School District where she worked as the middle school secretary and high school guidance secretary. Charlotte was an avid sports fan and loved her Cleveland Indians and Ohio State Buckeyes, but her happiest days were spent in the stands at St. C. football, basketball, and baseball games where she always kept a scorebook and cheered loudly, especially if she had a child or grandchild playing. Charlotte had a beautiful voice and sang in church for over 70 years, beginning as a 12-year-old in the choir at St. Paul’s Church in Flushing. She sang dozens of weddings throughout the years and was a cantor and choir member at St. Mary’s Church until age 85. In her later years, Charlotte enjoyed attending morning mass and loved working out and socializing at the Howard Long Wellness Center. Charlotte had an amazing talent for writing poems, and she has left so many of us these special treasures. Most of all, Gammy adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved keeping in touch with phone calls, pictures, and visits. Gammy didn’t like to miss a thing and she was excited for upcoming family weddings and graduations, and especially for two more great-grandchildren on the way. As a proud Italian, Charlotte will be remembered for being fiercely loyal and passionate about the things she believed in and loved, especially her Catholic faith and her cherished family. Besides her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, John Slavik, Sr., her sister Geraldine Szymialis and her brothers, Michael Vincenzo, Florian “Junior” Vincenzo and Robert Vincenzo.
She is survived by her children: John Slavik, Jr., Theresa (Geoff) Feisley, Joe (Diane) Slavik, and Michelle (Kurt) Gabram; 10 grandchildren: Jake (Grace) Slavik, Julianne Slavik, Jacob Feisley, William (Emily) Feisley, Daniel (Megan) Slavik, Claire Slavik, Luke Slavik, Savannah (Nolan) Farrell, Olivia Gabram (Thomas Snavely), and Isabelle Gabram; 7 great grandchildren: Levi, Lydia & baby Slavik, Annie, Sophie & James Slavik and baby Feisley; sisters-in-law DJ Slavik and Lorrinda Saxby-Vincenzo, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 12, from 4 to 7 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, with a Vigil Service at 4 pm. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 am until time of Funeral Liturgy with Mass on Wednesday, May 13 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville with Fr. Thomas Chillog as celebrant. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lafferty, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church or St. Mary’s Central School, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Charlotte’s Family thanks the staff at Beacon House and Liza’s Place for their loving care and compassion and special gratitude to Barbara (Vincenzo) Ellis and Christine (Cavicchia) Herink for their steadfast support and love.
Arrangements are being handled by Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
