Jeff Toothman

President

Jeff Toothman is a 1991 graduate of St. Clairsville High School. He attended Ohio University (Belmont) Eastern after high school, prior to his enrolling in The Cincinnati College Of Mortuary Science where he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mortuary Science in 1995. Upon graduation from CCMS he joined his father, uncle and grandfather in the family business, becoming the fourth generation of the Toothman family to serve the Ohio Valley as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. After serving an apprenticeship, under the direction of his father, and the completion and passing of licensing board exams he became a fully licensed funeral director and embalmer in 1997. In keeping with the laws of the state at the time, he also gained an Insurance License in 1996 enabling him to sell Pre-Arranged Insurance Funded Funeral Plans. Jeff has been employed by the Toothman Funeral Home since 1985 and was named president of the firm in 2012. He was recently presented his 25 year pin and certificate, for serving families as a licensed funeral director and embalmer, from the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. In 1997 Jeff married his high school sweetheart, Regan Jean Davenport (a 1993 St. C. High graduate and a Registered Nurse with Valley Hospice).  Regan and Jeff have four children: three daughters, Alexis Jean (25), Taylor Ann (23) and Abigail Nicole (21) and a son, Wyatt Landon (18). Jeff is a thirty-seven year cancer survivor, being diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in 1988. Blessed by God, and the care received from his family and from many wonderful doctors and nurses, locally and especially at the Cleveland Clinic, he enjoys life with a greater appreciation for all of God's blessings.  Jeff and Regan are members of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville, where Jeff was a former Chairman of Church Council (Administrative Board), and has served on various committees. He is a 28 year member of the St. Clairsville Rotary Club, he is a Paul Harris Fellow, served as club President (2000-2001), he served on the Board of Directors and was the former RI Foundation chairman for the club. He is a member of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce. Jeff is a former Director of the Board for Belco-Works and former Board Trustee with the Tri-County Help Center.  He is a member, a Past-Master (2007, 2008 & 2018) and former Secretary (2009-2016) of Weyer Lodge #541 F. & A.M. at Centerville, Ohio.  Regan and Jeff are members of Weyer Chapter # 515, Order of Eastern Star at Centerville.  Jeff is a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Steubenville.  He is a member of the Ohio Embalmers Association, and is a Past President of the Belmont County Funeral Directors Association.  He is a life member of the St. Clairsville Alumni Association and he is a former member of the Saints Club. He is a member of the True Sportsman's Club at Jacobsburg and is a member of the NRA.  A passion of Jeff's was coaching fastpitch softball including St. C. Junior Sports and Thunder Fastpitch.  His interests include: sports, the Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, St. Clairsville Red Devil Athletics and Music, movies, hunting, fishing, music, and spending time with family.

Linda Toothman

Administrative Assistant

Linda Toothman is a 1966 Graduate of Shadyside High School. Linda married Wilson Toothman in 1968 and they have three children, Denise (A.C.) Wiethe, Bill (Cami) Toothman and Jeff (Regan) Toothman all of St. Clairsville and they have seven grandchildren, Chase Wiethe, Rhyanna Wiethe, Alli Toothman, Alexis, Taylor, Abigail and Wyatt Toothman. She has worked in the funeral home since 1968 as secretary, hair stylist and assistant. Wilson and Linda are members of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville where she is a member of the Choir and is a member of the Thoburn United Methodist Women and has served on many committees. Linda is a member and Past Matron of the former St. Clairsville Chapter #510, Order of Eastern Star and current member of Weyer Chapter # 515, Order of Eastern Star in Centerville. She is a former District Deputy of District 15, Order of Eastern Star. She is a member of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of P.E.O. of St. Clairsville.

Wilson Toothman

Past President

Wilson Toothman is a 1967 graduate of Union Local High School. He attended Ohio University (Belmont) Eastern prior to enrolling in the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associates Degree in Mortuary Science in 1970. Wilson married Linda Ramsay in 1968. They have three children: Denise (A.C.) Wiethe, Bill (Cami) Toothman, Jeff (Regan) Toothman and seven grandchildren, Chase and Rhyanna Wiethe, Alli Toothman and Alexis, Taylor, Abigail and Wyatt Toothman. He has been an employee of Toothman Funeral Home since 1964, receiving his Embalmer License in October 1971 and Funeral Director License January 1972 after serving his apprenticeship under the direction of his father, Bill Toothman. He served as President of Toothman Funeral Home from 1980 until 2011. He is a Past President of District 12, Ohio Funeral Directors Association. Served on the Board of Directors of Ohio Funeral Directors Association for 4 years, during which time he served on Master Trust and Health Insurance Committees. Wilson is a member of the Ohio Embalmers Association and the Belmont County Funeral Directors Association. He was President of St. Clairsville Jaycees 1972-1973 and State Vice President Ohio Jaycees 1973-1974, receiving the Bob Schmidt Award as one of Ohio’s 6 Outstanding State VP’s. He was named Jaycee of the Year 1974-1975 and 1977-1978 and received JCI Senatorship in 1979. He has been a member of the St. Clairsville Rotary Club since 1974, serving as club President 1985-1986, he is a multi Paul Harris Fellow and served as District Governors Representative 1986-1987. Wilson served on the Mental Health Board for Belmont-Harrison-Monroe Counties 1977 to 1985, with one year as Chairman. He and his family are members of Thoburn United Methodist Church in St. Clairsville. He is a member and Past Master (1980 & 2011) of Weyer Lodge #541 F.& A.M. at Centerville and currently serving as the Treasurer. He is a member and Past Patron of the former St. Clairsville Chapter #510 Order of Eastern Star now Bridgeport Chapter #452 Order of Eastern Star. He is a member of Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Steubenville; the Osiris Shrine at Wheeling and member of the El Tor Grotto at Wheeling. Wilson is a member of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce and a member and Club Treasurer of the True Sportsman’s Club at Jacobsburg. He serves on the NRA Banquet Committee and the Ruffed Grouse Society Banquet Committee.  His hobbies are Hunting and Fishing.

Phil Kirksey

Funeral Director & Embalmer

Phil Kirksey is a 1991 graduate of St. Clairsville High School. He was active in athletics during his years as a St. C. Red Devil. Phil excelled in football in particular.  After graduation he attended Ohio University and Ohio University (Belmont) Eastern. He worked as a manager of two service stations in West Virginia before enrolling in the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Phil graduated from CCMS with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mortuary Science in 2002. He worked for Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Northern Kentucky while attending CCMS.  He also continued with the firm after graduation. Gaining useful experience in Kentucky he began serving an apprenticeship there, but when a position opened with Toothman Funeral Home in January, 2002, Phil came home to St. Clairsville to join the firm.  He completed his apprenticeship under the direction of Wilson, Clark and Jeff and passed the necessary licensing exams and is a licensed funeral director and embalmer.  The Toothman family is quite pleased to have Philip working as an employee with the firm.  He has been a member of their family for many years. Phil is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clairsville.  Phil enjoys many outdoor activities, sports, movies and music.

Todd Witchey

Funeral Director & Embalmer

Todd, a lifelong resident of St. Clairsville, Ohio, and graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1980.  He joined the U.S. Navy and completed four years of service.  He served aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey BB-62 during the police action in Beriut, Lebanon in 1983.

Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he attended the Belmont Technical College and Ohio University with an Associate Degree in Business Management.  He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science with a Bachelor's Degree in Mortuary Science.  He is licensed in Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Todd was married to the late Lori Ann (Tetlow) Witchey who passed away in 2017.  They have two children, Samantha and Christian.  The family are members of Thoburn United Methodist Church.

Todd is a member of Flushing Masonic Lodge 298, the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Embalmers Association and Belmont County Funeral Directors.  He is a life member of St. Clairsville VFW Post 5356 and is serving as Second Vice Commander of American Legion Post 159 and a life member of the St. Clairsville H.S. Alumni Association.

In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, playing golf and spending quality time with family and friends.

William L. Toothman

Past Director of the Board

William L. Toothman was a 1942 graduate of Bellaire High School.  He attended Ohio University and Ohio State University.  Bill graduated Suma Cum Laude from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1946.  He received the A. J. Nunnamaker Award for having the highest overall grade point average in his class.  He served his apprenticeship under the direction of his father, Willis "Doc" Toothman and was fully licensed in 1947.  He married Virginia Wilson in 1949 and they had four children, Wilson (Linda) Toothman, Portia (Conrad) Heydle, Susan (Larry) Vicen and Clark (Jean Ann) Toothman; nine grandchildren, Denise (A.C.) Wiethe, William (Cami) Toothman, Jeff (Regan) Toothman, Corinna Heydle, Sarah (John) Heydle Summers, Scott Heydle, Kayla (Andrew) Toothman Hess, Valerie Toothman and Michelle Toothman; and seven great grandchildren, Chase and Rhyanna Wiethe, Alli Toothman, Alexis, Taylor, Abigail and Wyatt Toothman. Bill continued on in the family business with his father becoming a full partner in 1952 and purchased his father’s interest when Doc semi-retired in 1955 making Bill the sole owner. He expanded in 1963 to St. Clairsville when he purchased an interest of the Johnston Funeral Home which was one of the oldest funeral firms in the Ohio Valley. Bill purchased the remaining interest in the business in 1969 and the name was changed to Toothman Funeral Home.  He served as owner and operator and Director of the Board. Bill was a hard working, well respected funeral director serving Ohio Valley families for over 60 years. His hard work and dedication paved the way for his two sons, Wilson in 1970 and Clark in 1984 to continue the family business as well as his grandson, Jeff in 1995. A few of his other accomplishments were: he was one of the founders of the Smith Township Volunteer Fire Department in Centerville;  he was a 50 year member of Weyer Lodge #541 F. & A.M. at Centerville; and he was the recipient of the Austin C. Furbee Award honoring outstanding alumni of Ohio University. Bill died on October 4, 2006 but his legacy continues.

Clark Toothman

Retired / Past VP

Clark Toothman is a 1981 graduate of Union Local High School. He attended Ohio University (Belmont) Eastern prior to his enrollment in the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He graduated from CCMS in 1984 with an associates degree in Mortuary Science. He has worked as an employee of Toothman Funeral Home since 1977, receiving his Embalmers License in 1984 and gaining his Funeral Directors License in 1985 after having served his apprenticeship under the direction of his father, Bill Toothman. His election as Vice-President of Toothman Funeral Home came in 1985. Clark also received his Insurance License in 1987 enabling him to sell Insurance Funded Pre-Planned Funerals. He married Jean Ann Clark in 1985. They have three daughters, Kayla (Andrew) Hess, Valerie Toothman and Michelle Toothman. Clark is a member of the Belmont County Funeral Directors Association. He is a member and Past Master of Belmont Lodge # 16 F. & A.M. at St. Clairsville. He and his family are members of First Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville. Clark is a member of the Bridgeport Chapter #452, Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Royal Arch Masons of Ohio, Bellaire Chapter #107 and a member of the Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, Bellaire Council #87. He is a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association. He is a member and former Director of the Board of the St. Clairsville Area Chamber of Commerce. His hobbies are hunting, fishing and wood working.  Clark retired December 31, 2018.
