William L. "Bill" Toothman, 81, of Jacobsburg, Ohio, died October 4, 2006 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital.

He was born December 11, 1924 in Jacobsburg, Ohio a son of the late Willis L. "Doc" Toothman and Roberta McMaster Toothman.

Bill was a retired owner and operator of Toothman Funeral Homes and the Chairman of the Board. He served Ohio Valley families as a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 60 years. He was a 50 year member of Weyer Lodge #541 F. & A.M. at Centerville. He graduated from Bellaire High School in 1942 and was a 1946 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Bill also was a recipient of the Austin C. Furbee Award for outstanding alumnus of Ohio University.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Dorothy Warren.

Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia J. Wilson Toothman; his children, Wilson L. (Linda) Toothman of St. Clairsville, Portia A. (Conrad) Heydle of St. Clairsville, Susan J. (Larry) Vicen of Jacobsburg and Clark T. (Jean Ann) Toothman of St. Clairsville; a sister, Jeanne (Gordon) Schroeder of Jacobsburg; nine grandchildren, Denise (A.C.) Wiethe, Billy (Cami) Toothman and Jeff (Regan) Toothman, Corinna Heydle, Scott Heydle and Sarah Heydle, Kayla Toothman, Valerie Toothman and Michelle Toothman all of St. Clairsville; six great grandchildren, Alli, Chase, Rhyanna, Lexi, Taylor and Abbey.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 5:45 p.m. Services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Michelle Lucarelli officiating. Burial will follow in Jacobsburg Cemetery.
