William H. Kirkland, 90, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Shadyside, died Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire.

He was born December 13, 1915 in Shadyside, Ohio, son of the late J. Walter and Edna M. White Kirkland.

Bill was retired from Bank One and the former First National Bank in Bellaire. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 27th Ordinance Company, 1st Cavalry Division. He was a graduate of the Elliot Business School in Wheeling. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Key serving as Elder and Treasurer and was the Sexton of the Bethel Cemetery for many years; he was a member of the American Legion Post # 52 at Bellaire; a 50 year member of Shadyside Lodge # 724 F. & A. M.; a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Steubenville. Bill served as Treasurer for the Village of Shadyside for 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by many cousins.

Surviving are a cousin, Mary Jane Cochran of Medford, Ohio; friends, Rodger and Joan Brown and family of Bellaire, Ed and Anna Marie Douglass of Columbus, Robert and Margaret Robinson and family of Pickerington, Ohio, Tom and Mindy Whiteley of Bethesda; lifetime friends, Harry and Jane Kearns of Zanesville, Ohio and many dear friends here and around the country.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon, with Pastor Kurt Turner and Pastor Pete Walburn officiating. Shadyside Lodge # 724 will have services at 11:30 a.m. followed by services conducted by the Belmont County Council of American Legions at 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville.
