Obituary

Walter Johannes Maas, 90, of St. Clairsville, Ohio passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born December 5, 1935 in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of the late Paul C. and Sarah Hodgeson Maas.

Walter was a former employee of the former Fostoria Glass and retired from Columbian Chemical as an Operator and also he was a farmer. He was a member of Marshall County Farm Bureau, Marshall County COOP and the Thoburn United Methodist Church and the Carpenters Sunday School Class. He proudly served in the U.S Air Force.

Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Karen V. Holmes Maas of St. Clairsville; two children, Katherine “Kathy” (Brian) Key of Circleville, Ohio and John Maas of Benwood, West Virginia; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Zach) Finley, Tyler Key and girlfriend, Kaylor Stemen; one great granddaughter, Emma Finley; a brother, Herman (Carolyn) Maas of St. Clairsville.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville. Friends again will be received on Monday from 11 am until time of Funeral Services at 1 pm with Rev. Jeffrey Croft officiating. Burial will follow in Halcyon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Sherrard, West Virginia. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Moundsville Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Thoburn United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
