Obituary

Walter Garczyk, age 86, of Maynard, Ohio, died Friday, November 3, 2006 at Sunset Health Care Center in Harrisville.

He was born on July 28, 1920 in Maynard, Ohio, son of the late Joseph and Mary Garczyk.

Walter was a retired coal miner and farmer. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard; a member of the PNA # 455 at Maynard and a member of the Bridgeport Eagles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Andy, Joe and Casmir Garczyk; and two sisters, Mary Pfeiffer and Amelia Uhazy.

Surviving are his wife, Nellie Styrcula Garczyk; a daughter, Carol Kovachic and her husband Bill of St. Clairsville; a son, Gene Garczyk and his wife Kathy of Maynard; a sister, Helen Fiutem of Maynard; and four grandchildren, Daniel and Eric Kovachic and Sarah and Jason Garczyk.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 3 p.m. and a PNA Service at 6 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church in Maynard on Monday at 10 a.m., with Father Thomas Graven the Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Pleasant Grove, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maynard Community Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 302, Maynard, Ohio 43937.
