Vivian May Hayes, 87, of St. Clairsville, formerly of Merrillville, Ind., died Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, W.Va.
She was born May 21, 1917, in Clinton, Ind., a daughter of Joseph Watson & Carrie Viola Wells Foncannon. On August 15, 1939, she was married to William E. Hayes, who preceded her in death.
In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a son, William E. Hayes, Jr. and a brother, John Foncannon.
Vivian was a 1935 graduate of Clinton High School. She received her RN degree from Union Hospital School of Nursing at Terre Haute, Indiana in 1938. She spent most of her life in Merrillville, Indiana where she was a homemaker and a member of Merrillville Methodist Church. She always said the happiest time of her life was raising her two daughters. In 1996 she moved to St. Clairsville.
Surviving are two daughters Sue Parker of St. Clairsville and her companion Dr. A. J. Antalis of Shadyside and Janice Berkstresser and her husband Don, of Olathe, Kansas; a brother, Max Foncannon of Clinton, Indiana and a sister, Dorotha Petticrew of Springfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Robert and wife Sheila, Stephen, John Berkstresser and Deborah Cook and husband Alan, three great-granddaughters Amanda, Brandi, and Christina Berkstresser.
Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and funeral services immediately following at 4:15 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Ickes officiating.. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery at Orleans, Indiana on Tuesday.
