Vivian Rhoda Cook, 86, of Pleasant Grove, OH, died October 19, 2016 at Adena Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on December 6, 1929, in Pleasant Grove, the youngest daughter of Oscar and Ada Belle Thornton. Vivian lived her entire life in Pleasant Grove, the last four years with Annette, Mike, and Sarah Slenski.
Vivian, a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Ohio University, and Dayton University, was a retired teacher from Martins Ferry Public Schools and a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Harrisville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Edward Cook, who passed away December 13, 2000; as well as her brother Lester Thornton, and her sisters, Erma Zeyer, Lucille Lewis, Elinor Krinke, and Clarice Anderson.
Surviving are her children: Rhoda (Donald) Thompson of Mt. Pleasant; Mark (Sharla) Cook of Newark; Annette (Michael) Slenski of Pleasant Grove; Maria (Randy) Thomas of Cleveland; a sister Marjory (Marion) Spragg; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Monday, October 24 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.
Friends then will be received at the Covenant Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, October 25 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Barry Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisville or to Medi Home Hospice in St. Clairsville.
