Barker, Shirley L. Newkirk, 71, of Bellaire, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at Belmont Community Hospital in Bellaire. She was born June 12, 1936 in Bellaire, daughter of the late Roy and Isabelle Hoke Whitlatch.

Shirley was a member of DTM Victory Center in Moundsville; and a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Newkirk; her second husband, James Barker; and a sister, Margie Whitlatch.

Surviving are her four children, James D. Newkirk of Pittsburgh, PA, Debbie Carson of Bellaire, Roger Barker and Patricia Nixon both of Martins Ferry; six grandchildren, Tommy, Tammy and Teddy Carson, Tyler Barker, Emma and Lucas Nixon; three great grandchildren, Tiffany and Lacie Newkirk and Taz Carson; and two sisters, Maxine Newell of Bellaire and Dolly Connors of Shadyside.

Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Sherry Burton officiating. Burial will follow in Warnock Cemetery.
