Scott David Merkins, 58, of Jewett, Ohio died April 6, 2020 at his home.

He was born July 14, 1961 in Crookston, Minnesota, a son of LoAnn Olson Merkins and the late David Hallace Merkins.

Scott was retired from FirstEnergy W.H. Sammis Plant and served 22 years in the U.S. Navy.  He was a member of Weyer Lodge 541 F. & A.M. in Centerville and of the Cadiz American Legion Post 34. He enjoyed driving for the Harrison County Veterans and loved riding his motorcycle.

In addition to his father, Scott was preceded in death by a sister, Suzanne Merkins.

Surviving are his mother, LoAnn Merkins; his wife, Cheryl A. Usenick Merkins; six children, Kristi (Shelby) Adams, Kathlean (Donald) Vanemon, Kristopher (Jessica) Merkins, Angela (Jason) Hunter, Mellissa (Mike) Skonecy and Tyler (Bryton) Usenick; a sister, Sheri (Randy) Baker and 15 grandchildren.

Due to the COVID-19 government recommendations, the family will have private visitation and services at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville.  A Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted by Weyer Lodge. Burial will be held later in Pleasant View Cemetery, Ada, Minnesota.
