Sarah Ruth Thornton, 88, of Jacobsburg, died Friday, January 10, 2003 at Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling. She was born December 26, 1914 at Glencoe, daughter of the late Samuel J. and Elizabeth A. Hess Coleman.

She was a member of the Clarksburg United Methodist Church; a 4-H Leader for many years; Glencoe Senior Citizens and the United Methodist Women.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin "Yank" Thornton; a daughter, Dorcas Ruth Thornton; a grandson, Charles Russell Stillion, Jr.; a granddaughter, Kara Rose Stillion Gillespie; two sisters, Elizabeth Blattler and Mary Haught; and a brother, William Coleman.

Surviving are two daughters, Rose Marie Stillion of Jacobsburg and Sarah Elizabeth VanDyne of Lebanon Church, VA; a sister, Agnes Coleman of Jacobsburg; 3 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, Jacobsburg on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Mary Murtha officiating. Burial follows in Glencoe Cemetery, Glencoe, Ohio.
