Ruth Anna Pickens Lewis, 87, of Adena, Ohio, died Saturday, June 24, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born June 4, 1936, in Findlay, Ohio, a daughter of the late Samuel E. Pickens and Elsie Long Pickens.

Ruth was a retired teacher from Martins Ferry Schools and was a substitute teacher at Hilltop, Mt. Pleasant and Steeple Valley Schools. Ruth had a strong faith in God and was an active member of the Harrisville Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Garden Club. Ruth loved her family dearly, enjoyed her flowers, watching birds and butterflies.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Walter E. Lewis on June 20th; and brother, Paul Pickens.

Ruth is survived by her two children, John W. (Mary) Lewis, and Lona Jean Lewis-Sorge (Stanley Oleska); four grandchildren, Luke Sorge, Rachel Sorge, John W. (Danelle) Lewis Jr., and Amanda; a great grandchild is expected in August; and special friends, Peg and George Ferda.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where visitation will again be held on Monday from Noon until time of service at 1 p.m., with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating. The burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens.
