Giffen, Ruth S., 93, of St. Clairsville, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Lancia Villa Royale Nursing Home in Steubenville, Ohio.

Ruth was born in St. Clairsville, Ohio on August 15, 1915, daughter of the late John M. Giffen and Mary Edith Stewart Giffen.

She was a retired teacher from the St. Clairsville-Richland City School District. Ruth was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville where she was a former choir member. She was a Muskingum College graduate with a degree in education.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Catherine Giffen; and a half brother, Robert C. Giffen.

Surviving are her sister, Sara Emma (Edward) Grohman of Knoxville, Tennessee; and a nephew, J. Robert Giffen of Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of services at 2 p.m. with Rev. Laurie Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville.
