Russell Murwood McMahon, 82, of Moundsville, West Virginia, died Saturday, October 2, 2021, peacefully at his home.

He was born February 4, 1939, in Glencoe, Ohio, a son of the late Murwood McMahon and Mary Ann Thornton McMahon.

Russell was a Christian by faith, who read his bible frequently and placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Russell was a retired mine foreman from Consolidation Coal Company, McElroy Mine. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1961 to 1963.

Russell was a very adventurous person who loved cruises, ballroom dancing, fishing, hunting, scuba diving and raising his own bees.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Veronica Cuchta McMahon; his 10 year partner, Della Westfall; six sisters, Hazel Davis, Rachael McMahon, Mary Jane McGilton, Victoria Cargnel, Shirley Ware and Sarah Traylenik; and four brothers, Howard "Gabe" McMahon, George McMahon, Paul McMahon and Homer McMahon.

Surviving are his two daughters, Kimberly (Scott) Brown of Wheeling and Crystal (Randy) Mowder of Moundsville; four grandchildren, Casey and Camryn Mowder and Juliet and Nicole Brown; a sister, Wilma Myers; several nieces and nephews; his companion, Carol Mowery and loyal caregiver, Connie Snodgrass.

Facial coverings are recommended.  Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, where services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m., with Pastor James Higginson Officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville, WV.
