Robert Smith, 84, of Jacobsburg, Ohio formerly of Canton, Ohio and Middlebourne, WV died Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Shadyside Care Center in Shadyside, Ohio.

He was born February 27, 1933 in Middlebourne, WV, a son of the late Ruben Smith and Mimi Richman Smith.

He was a retired employee of Republic Steel in Canton, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Powhatan American Legion in Powhatan Point, Ohio.

He was a hardworking, generous man who was loved by all. He enjoyed spending time at the American Legion and watching nature.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Pyles Smith in 1980; a daughter Diane Lynn Smith Rohrbaugh; brothers and sisters, Edwin Smith, Donna Skinner, Freda Bailey, Kenneth Smith, Dewayne Smith, Carl Smith, and Imogene Smith.

Surviving are three sons, Robert W. Smith of Loudonville, OH, Dennis Smith of Jacobsburg, OH, and Brian Smith of Canton, OH; sisters, Betty (Bob) Swiger of New Milton, WV, and Mary Janice Wright of Weirton, WV; brothers, Donald (Carolyn) Smith of Wellsburg, WV, and Ruben (Mable) Smith, Jr. of Middlebourne, WV; four grandchildren, Jared Smith, Cory Smith, Tyler Rex, and Brandon Smith; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until time of service at 5 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home, 141 S. Marietta St., St. Clairsville, OH.

Inurnment be held at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, East Canton, Ohio.
