Robert Edward Makofsky, 77, of St. Clairsville, Ohio passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his home. He was born March 25, 1947, in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late William Aloys Makofsky and Helen Sarah Kennedy Makofsky.
Robert was a 1965 graduate of Bellaire High School, a 1978 graduate of West Liberty University, and a graduate of both the Ohio and West Virginia Schools of Banking. He received the Basic, General, Standard and Advanced Certificates from the American Institute of Banking. He started working as an auditor at Security National Bank in Wheeling, working his way as the Vice President of Operations and Marketing at the Steubenville location. Some of Robert's awards include being nominated as the "1978 Ohio Outstanding American Institute of Banking Student by the Ohio Banker's Association; named a 1979 honorary member by West Liberty University to Alpha Kappa Psi, the campuses largest business fraternity. He served on various organizations such as: President and Board Member of the Steubenville Kiwanis Club, the Steubenville Chapter, American Institute of Banking, and the Jefferson County American Cancer Society, Board of Directors for the Steubenville Downtown Business Association and the Ohio Bankers Association and Marketing Committee in Columbus; Chairman of Steubenville's first "Downtown Homecoming Fiesta 3 Day Celebration", Treasurer of Steubenville Kiwanis Youth Soccer League. He taught banking courses at Jefferson Community College and West Liberty University. His hobbies included golf, coin collecting and reading novels. He was a Methodist by faith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, William L. Makofsky; two sisters, Beverly Hess and Kathryn L. Kozlowski; and a daughter Sherri L. Makofsky.
He is survived by his children, Gerald T. Moore, Misty M. Pagett, and James E. Makofsky; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 23, 2024, for a memorial visitation at the Flushing Alliance Church (431 High St. Flushing, Ohio 43977) from 2 p.m. until time of services at 4 p.m. with Pastor Nathan McKeen officiating.
