Obituary

FULTON, Robert David Sr., 73, died on Jan 1, 2011 in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He was born on March 30, 1937, the son of Charles Franklin Fulton and Frances Ruth Edmiston Fulton.

He was retired as Police Chief from the Yorkville Police Dept and as a Lieutenant and emergency 911 Dispatcher from the Martins Ferry Police force, serving over 35 years in law enforcement. He served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1955-1963 on the USS Hemminger Destroyer Escort 746. He also worked part time in a home construction business.

He was dedicated first to God, then family, and then to job, always thinking about others, caring, and giving unselfishly. He provided a home for his wifes brothers when their mother and father passed away at an early age. Often he would work up to four different jobs at a time in one week so his wife could be a stay at home mom when his children were very young.

He was a member of the Martins Ferry First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and a Trustee.

He enjoyed music and played the guitar, harmonica and organ in his spare time. His favorite music was country and hymns and he specifically enjoyed playing hymns with his son Bill at church services. He enjoyed camping with family and church friends.

He was well respected by his family, friends, co-workers and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Mary Esther Nice Fulton of almost 53 years. They were married in Bridgeport, Ohio on Feb. 22 1958. He is also survived by a daughter Frances Marie Fulton Spear (Steve) of IL and two sons Robert David Fulton, Jr (Wanda) of FL and William Earl Fulton (Rebecca) of KY, five granddaughters, two grandsons and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Gillespie, Rella Bland and Loretta Buonamici and five brothers, Wilbur, Clarence (Bud), Charles, William and Lawrence (Larry).

Visitation will be at Toothman funeral home in St. Clairsville on Friday, January 7 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Services will be held at Toothmans on Saturday at 11 am with Pastor Henry Lewis of Elm Grove Christian Church. Also officiating are Stephen Spear and William Peroni. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville.
