Col. Robert W. Derr, 65, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Friday, March 4th 2016 at his home.
He was born May 7, 1950 in Easton, PA , a son of the late Charles E. Derr and Mary A. Derr of Bethlehem, PA.
Robert retired after 30 years of service in the US Army, first as an officer in Field Artillery and later in the Army Reserve, Civil Affairs division. He worked as an engineer for Procter and Gamble for 23 years and ran a consulting business. His career led him to relocate multiple times to Germany, which sparked in him a love of travel and adventure.
Bob was an avid cyclist and enjoyed sports, travel, sailing, fishing, gardening, and spending quality time with family and friends. He was a loyal fan of all Philadelphia sports teams and Penn State football, always optimistic for the next season. He had a passion for nature and a hard day's work followed by a relaxing meal and spirited conversation in front of a fire. His joy for life will be remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda; sons, Tom (Erika) Derr of Arlington, VA and Steve Derr of Carlisle, PA; daughter Karen (David) Schylling of Media, PA ; four grandchildren, Max and Lila Derr, Anna and Oliver Schylling; Sisters, Janet (William) Johnson, of Blawnox, PA, Ginny (Richard Hardie) Dietrich of Wall Township, NJ, Judy (Robert) Foster of Venetia, PA; Brother, James (Ginny) Derr of Allentown, PA; Sister-in-law, Pamela (Tom) Kralovic of St. Clairsville, OH; Father and Mother-in-law, Arthur and Dorothy Thompson of St. Clairsville, OH; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Friday, March 11th, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, and on Saturday, March 12th from 12-1pm.
Masonic services will be held at 7:45pm Friday evening.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday, March 12th, with full Military Honors.
