Richard "Dick" E. Dolan, 85, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died March 28, 2018, at home. He was born February 16, 1933, in McKeesport, Pa., son of the late Philip Francis Dolan and Kathryn Martin Dolan. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Philip, and daughter, Kelly.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Alice, whom he married in 1967; a son, Patrick (Scherry) of Lewis Center, Ohio; and grandsons Ryan, Sean and Kyle. Kelly died of leukemia in 1992 at age 20. Dick authored a book titled "My Pretty Girl" to commemorate her valiant battle with cancer and her loving personality.
He graduated from Duquesne University in 1955 and Villanova Law School in 1958. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he was admitted to the practice of law in Pennsylvania, and began his career as a bank trust officer, serving 17 years with two Pittsburgh banks.
In 1978, Dick became vice president and manager of the trust department of Belmont National Bank and the family moved to St Clairsville. After retirement in 1996, he practiced law for a number of years.
In May 2004, he was duly admitted and qualified as an attorney and counselor of the Supreme Court of the United States.
Dick was a longtime member and past president of the St. Clairsville Rotary Club, a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the boards of the Belmont County Animal Rescue League and Belco Works. He was also an antique car collector.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clairsville, a lector and longstanding member of the church's finance council. He also served 33 years as a member of the finance council for the Diocese of Steubenville. In recognition of this service, he received the Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice award from Pope John Paul II in 2001.
Friends and family will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 4 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Service at 6:45 p.m. followed by Full Military Honors by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Father Thomas Chillog the celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's School, St. Clairsville Public Library or St. Clairsville noon Rotary Club.
