Obituary

Phyllis Mae Porter Bell, 89, of Shadyside, Ohio, passed peacefully surrounded by family on November 21, 2025, in Liza's Place, Wheeling, West Virginia.

Phyllis was born on March 7, 1936, in Bellaire, Ohio, a daughter of the late Florence Pearl Ellis Porter and James Edward Porter.

Phyllis was retired from the offices of Wheeling Kitchen Equipment and Santco Inc. having worked 33 years finishing as a medical billing clerk for Intermed of West Virginia at OVMC. She was a devoted member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Shadyside having joined on April 6, 1947. Phyllis served as Elder, Deacon, trustee, youth group advisor, taught Sunday School, was financial secretary and after school program volunteer. She was a member of the Women's Club of Wheeling serving on various committees, Phyllis served under the Vista Program and read and tutored students at Washington Lands Elementary School in Moundsville and Jefferson Elementary in Shadyside. Her greatest loves were her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Prentice "Roy" Bell; a sister, Judie Ruble; a brother, Jim Porter; and a brother-in-law, Richard Bell.

Phyllis is survived by her two daughters, Barbara and her husband Todd Ankrom of Moundsville, West Virginia, Beth and her husband William Doyle of Bridgeport, Ohio; a son, Brad and his wife Denise Bell of Tallmadge, Ohio; a brother, Richard and his wife Barbara Porter of Shadyside, Ohio; her five grandchildren, Hunter Ankrom, Fallon (Sean) Clemons, Mannix Doyle, Macrae Doyle, and Ashton Bell; a great granddaughter, Brinley Ankrom; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m., with Pastor Joel Traylor officiating. The burial will be private in Belmont County Memorial Park Cemetery.
