Perman Earl Sayre, 88, of Belmont, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, West Virginia. He was born on July 17, 1916 in Monongalia County, West Virginia son of the late Arthur and Nellie Harker Sayre.
He was a retired employee from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and a farmer. Perman was a member of the United Methodist Church at Barton, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Lunsford Sayre; a daughter, Joyce Sayre; three brothers, Bearl, James and Louis Sayre; and two sisters, Jeanette Snedeker and Pansy Sayre.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Davenport Sayre; three sons, David C. Sayre of Belmont, Paul Sayre of St. Clairsville and Ralph Sayre of Texas; a daughter, Karen Duggan of Baltimore, Ohio; two stepsons, Gerald Smigle and Joseph Smigle, Jr. both of Farmington, Ohio; two sisters, Louise Banfield of St. Clairsville and Wilma Emfield of Rayland; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held Friday, August 13, 2004 at 1 p.m., with Pastor Elaine Cutlip officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
