Pelagia Gawel, 95, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, formerly of Allentown, PA died Saturday, June 29, 2019 at the Continuous Care Center in Wheeling, WV.

She was born January 18, 1924 in Chiszewice, Poland, a daughter of the late Stefan Maystriw and Kathryn Kopytko Maystriw.

Pelagia was retired from Schneider Manufacturing in Allentown, PA. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Bridgeport, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emil Gawel.

Surviving are a son Stefan Gawel of St. Clairsville and his fiancée, Rose Mader of Weirton, WV; three granddaughters, Amy (Wayne) Wastler, Katie (Josh) Hutchinson and Kelly (Brian) Caffrey; 5 great grandchildren, Caleb, Cooper and Curren Wastler, Jack and Emma Hutchinson; three step-grandchildren, Christopher Mader, Kendra Marte and Stephen (Kaycie) Mader; three step-great grandchildren, Jonathan Marte, Bruce and Damien Mader; and special friends, Dave and Helen Bartsch, Milton and Carol Sumner, Justine Kruk and Christine and Reds Bolesky.

Friends and family will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 5 p.m.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Bridgeport with Father John Mucha as the celebrant.  Burial follows in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling.
