Pearl Mae Holmes Virts Spendal, age 98, of St. Clairsville, died at Forest Hill Nursing Home on Friday, April 21, 2006. She was born in Gladesville, West Virginia on August 22, 1907, daughter of the late Albert W. Holmes and Ethel Jane Noce Holmes.

She was a Methodist by faith.

In addition to her parents, Pearl Mae was preceded in death by husbands, Ray Virts and Anton "Andy" Spendal; an infant son, James Virts; Four brothers, Spurgeon, Ralph, Oliver and Carl Holmes; and a sister, Betty Roberts.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Bradley Call officiating. Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
