Paul Planey, 83 of Stewartsville, Ohio died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Heartland Nursing Home in Lansing.

He was born April 1, 1924 in Stewartsville, a son of the late John Planey and Ella Raptosh Planey.

Paul was a retired employee of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel?s Benwood Plant, an Army veteran of WWII, a member of the Neffs American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Italian American Club, and, Sons of Italy in Bellaire.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Planey; a granddaughter, Becky Sabinsky; sister, Rose Marie Planey; and daughter-in-law, Becky Planey.

Surviving are his wife, Rita Eileen Shaver Planey; five children, Karen (Jim) Howell of Stewartsville, Rick (Linda) Planey of Key, Rose (Chris) Wasko of Shadyside, Brenda (Bob) Gabel of Columbus, and Rita (Rick) Ofat of Bellaire; brothers, John and Fred Planey of Bellaire; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Larry Helms officiating. Burial follows in Glencoe Cemetery.

The Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct services at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m.
