MARONEY, Michael D. of St. Clairsville, Ohio, born Feb. 18, 1941 in Bellaire, Ohio son of John and Elizabeth Stemerick Maroney died Sunday, July 25th, 2010 in Wheeling Hospital after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer.

He was a 1960 graduate of St. John High School and a veteran of the US Army, having served in Germany. He earned the highest honor in Physical Fitness competition while in Basic Training in Fort Jackson, SC in 1960. He retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company in 1995 with 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pauline Miller of California and brother Patrick Maroney of Maui, Hawaii and Glendale, WV.

Michael is survived by his wife Judith Stefani Maroney, his daughter Erin Maroney Olexo, his son Matt Maroney (Lindy); 4 grandchildren, Bo Michael Olexo, Braden R. Olexo, Riley E. Maroney and Reese N. Maroney, all of St. Clairsville.

Also surviving are his brothers William (Doris) Maroney of Bridgeport, Dennis (Patti) Maroney of California, and sister Rose Maroney Kennelly of Warsaw, Ohio. He is also survived by Mary Denham, his foster sister, daughter of Harry and Helen Hepner of Kinsman, Ohio, who preceded him in death.

His Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard, Ohio on Wednesday, July 28th at 10:00 a.m. with Father Thomas Graven as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio. He had requested no visitation prior. Arrangements entrusted to Toothman Funeral Home.

Belmont County Council of American Legions will conduct Military Honor Services at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church following the Mass.
