Michael J. Handzel, 62, of Groveport Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday January 8, 2023. He passed away peacefully, with family at his side after a brief illness. He was born August 3, 1960, in Wheeling, WV, the son of Irene Handzel of St. Clairsville, OH, and the late Joseph Handzel.
Michael proudly served in the U. S. Airforce and was based in Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota.
Michael was a machinist throughout his career. He loved his family and friends and adored his grandchildren. He had a passion for his motorcycles. Family and his Catholic faith were his daily motivation and happiness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J Handzel, and his sister Elaine C. Norris.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sons, Nicholas Handzel, and David A. Handzel (Mollie); stepson Joseph Rains, brother, Joseph "Jay" (Joann) Handzel; sisters, Barbara (George) Zoeckler, and Leah Ann (Ken) Yost; two grandsons, Alex and Maximus Handzel; multiple nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at St. Mary Catholic Church, 212 W Main St, St Clairsville, OH 43950, on Friday, January 13, 2023, from 10 a.m., until time of the Mass at 11 a.m., with Father Thomas Chillog Officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery St. Clairsville, OH. Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association following Mass at the Church.
