Merle "Mike" Mccutcheon's Obituary

Merle A. "Mike" McCutheon, 75, of Wheeling, died Friday, August 7, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on August 10, 1939, son of the late James Eugene and Rose Ann Yanssens McCutcheon.

Mike graduated from St. Joan of Arc Grade School and Central Catholic High School. He was an Air Force veteran and worked as a barber at Roy's Barber Shop in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He also worked for the United Mine Workers in surface mining for 18 years and was a foreman for E.G. Smith Painting and Construction and he retired from P.P.G. as a salesman in the coating department.

He was a member and involved with several organizations including the American Legion Post 159 in St. Clairsville, the Eagles and Elks in Martins Ferry and the Moose Lodge in Margate, Florida. Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman and golfer. He spent time in Florida so he could enjoy the warm weather and fish and golf with his buddies. His ability as a gardener was well known. His backyard and patio was called his hacienda where he spent countless hours caring for his pond and grooming his garden. He enjoyed summer parties with his family and friends. He was much loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol McCutcheon; two brothers, Jim and Jack McCutcheon; and a sister, Sue Murphy.

He is survived by three sons, Matthew McCutcheon of Columbus, OH, Joe (Shari) McCutcheon of Bridgeport, OH and Jeffrey (Pam) McCutcheon of Midway, OH; step children, Clark (Sharon) Pajack, Billy (Melissa) Pajack and Robin (Jay) Ellis; grandchildren, Molly, Cody, Courtney, Casey, Jeff Jr., Carly, Karina, Julia, Liam, Samone and T.J.; sisters, Barbara Sobota of Bellaire, Peg Justice and Ann Lee (Joe) Bauduin both of Wheeling; a brother, Joe (Sharon) McCutcheon of St. Clairsville; his special friend and companion, Sue Riffle of Moundsville, WV; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until time of services at 4:30 p.m. with Monsignor Bakhos Chidiac officiating. Visitation will then resume Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
