Mary Elizabeth Duffey, 97, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Forest Hill Retirement Center in St. Clairville.
She was born March 8, 1918 in Wheeling, WV, a daughter of the late Clinton Leroy Hawthorne and Emma Mary Caldwell Hawthorne.
Mary Elizabeth was a retired employee of the Mine Safety and Health Administration office in St. Clairsville, a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in St. Clairsville, Past Matron of the former St. Clairsville Chapter # 510 Order of Eastern Star, Mother Advisor of the former Rainbow Girls of St. Clairsville, a member of St. Clairsville Women's Club, Alpha Phi Sigma Sorority Epsilon Chapter, Mistletoe Twig at Barnesville Hospital, Chapter EB P.E.O., and White Shrine of Jerusalem in Bellaire.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Duffey, Jr.; two brothers, Frank Caldwell Hawthorne and Arthur Leroy Hawthorne.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Nancy (Scott) McNickle of Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, Gregory Hawthorne of St. Clairsville, David Hawthorne of Lancaster, Ohio, Mary Emma (Greg) Snyder of Columbus, Ohio, Judy (Glenn) Cary of Warren, Ohio, Christine Hawthorne of Huntington, WV, John (Chris) O'Connor of St. Louis, MO, James (Joyce) Hackett of South Bend, IN; several great nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday from Noon until time of service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Erica Harley officiating.
