IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marvin L.
Bumgardner
April 28, 1937 – January 1, 2024
Marvin L. Bumgardner, Sr, 86, of Warnock, Ohio went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2024, in Wheeling, West Virginia.
He was born April 28, 1937, in Warnock, Ohio, to the late Lawrence E. and Mildred P. (Kettlewell) Bumgardner as the oldest of seven children.
Marvin was a 1955 graduate of St. Clairsville High School. He worked at AT&T for over 34 years, where he obtained a national security clearance to work on projects such as the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line and traveled around the eastern part of the country learning various aspects of the telecommunications industry (e.g., power, transmission, and tower maintenance). But Marvin's true calling was farming. He was an active beef farmer until he was 82 years old. He had a great passion for ensuring that everything in his charge was well-maintained and cared for, including his equipment, his livestock, and most importantly, his family. Marvin was extremely mechanically talented and often fashioned his own equipment pieces after seeing similar pieces on a sales lot. He was ahead of his time in many ways, a hard worker, creative, expert planner, and a life-long learner. Above all, he was a loving, supportive, and compassionate husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. His family and friends treasured his ornery sense of humor, quick wit, and storytelling.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene (Baker) Bumgardner, and his five children from his first marriage to Judith A. Bumgardner (deceased): Michelle (Sean) Speedy of Carrollton, Rebecca (John) Hurley of Barnesville, Barbara (Gary) Smith of St. Clairsville, Vicki (Joe) Craig of Marysville, and Marvin Jr. (Brandie) Bumgardner of Ashburn, VA; seven grandchildren, Jenna (Hayley) Tucker, Matthew Hurley, Sarah and Kyle Craig, and Greysen, Emeline and Lorelei Bumgardner; one great-granddaughter, Mira Tucker; three step-children Lori (Clesson) Carpenter, Todd (Melissa) Baker, and Larry (Heidi) Baker; three sisters, Jane (Louis) Rebecca of Warnock, Lara (Greg) Crow of Bellaire, Debra (Tom) Lawrence of Jacobsburg; two brothers, Chester Bumgardner of Warnock, Lawrence Bumgardner of St. Clairsville; numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren. Marvin was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Usenick.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 10:00 until time of funeral service at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Jeff Lewis officiating.
