Obituary

Mark "Bud" Tomer passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9th, 2026, at the age of 72, at Cumberland Pointe, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on May 19th, 1953, Bud was the son of the late Robert "Bob" and Bernice (Anderson) Tomer.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sue (D'Angelo) Tomer, sister-in-law Donna (D'Angelo) Helms, and sister-in-law Ellie Tomer.

Bud is survived by his loving twin daughters, Kelli (Andy) Poe, and Kerri Tomer (Mike), who are also known as "Buddy's Girls".  Bud was a proud Pap to his grandson Max Thornton and granddaughter Emma Poe.  He was proud to be the brother to his siblings, Lucinda "Cindy" (Bill) Waters, Kevin Tomer, Robert "Bobby" (Lori) Tomer, and Timothy "Tim" (Richelle) Tomer, an uncle to his special nephews and nieces, and a true friend to many.

Bud grew up in Holloway, Ohio and moved to St. Clairsville, Ohio, where he was a lifelong resident with his family.   He worked as a Barge Loader on the Ohio River for most of his working career, where he met many great friends and co-workers over the decades.

Bud would always say his greatest accomplishment was his family.  He was the proud dad who followed his daughters in EVERYTHING they did in life and cheered and supported them along the way.  When his grandchildren were born, Bud took his role as Pap very seriously by making sure he always had candy and uniquely flavored potato chips to give to them and was ready to play "Poolsketball" at the first splash in the pool.  He would play any game they came up with and somehow he always lost.  He cheered his grandchildren on through academic and athletic achievements and would drop anything just to hang out.

Bud touched the lives of so many people.  He never missed an opportunity to contribute to the Union Local Alumni Association.  When he wasn't working, he was a frequent shopper at Riesbeck's, where he enjoyed running into many friends and making new friends over the years with employees at the store.  Bud made friends with anyone he would meet and could bring a smile to even a stranger's face by his kind gestures and joke telling. Scarlet and Gray ran through Bud's veins.  He loved Ohio State Buckeyes football games and would proudly wear his lucky jersey for decades.  He became friends with many just by saying "O-H" to start a conversation. Most recently made friends at Cumberland Pointe, where he "liked you a lot".

Bud will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on Tuesday, January 13th from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14th at 10am.  A burial will take place following the service.

In leu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, Greater East Ohio Area Chapter, 408 Ninth St. SW, Suite 3400, Canton, OH 44707
