Marion F. "Bunk" Pytlak, 94, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Friday, December 21, 2018.
He was born June 2, 1924 in Echo, Ohio son of the late Michael and Stella Suchoski Pytlak.
Bunk worked at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel for 4 years and was the owner and operator of the former Pytlak Barber Shop in Bellaire for over 65 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville, where he was an usher for over 60 years. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W., American Legion, Eagles and the Speidel Golf Club in WVa for decades, before finally giving up golf at the age of 90. Bunk was a Life Member of the Saints Club and cooked for the meetings for many years.
Bunk was drafted just 30 days after graduating from Bellaire High School in 1943. He served in the 125 th Gun Battalion in Holland and Belgium. He served as Corporal in the infamous Battle of the Bulge, which he was very proud of. He later served as an M.P. in Germany from 1945-1946. In 1994, he accompanied several of his fellow veterans to Antwerp, Belgium at the Prime Minister's request to commemorate the 50 th anniversary of the country's liberation.
Bunk coached Legion Baseball in Neffs for many years. He laid claim that it was the first Eastern Ohio team to make it to the State Finals in Columbus. He became a scout for the Dodgers in Eastern Ohio during the 1950's. In the late 60's the sport of golf took over and became his passion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Doris Smith Pytlak; a grandson, Justin N. "Bean" Pytlak; 4 brothers, Alex, Spike, Edward and Chab; and 3 sisters, Helen, Della and Clara.
Surviving are his 3 children, Cindy (David), Thomas and Danny all of St. Clairsville; three grandsons; one great granddaughter; a sister, Josephine Jagucki of St. Clairsville; and nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday, Dec. 28 , 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville on Saturday at 10:30 a.m., with Father Thomas Chillog as celebrant. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery with Full Military Honors by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
