Maria Alexovich, 88, of Wheeling, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died July 20, 2026, in Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Clairsville.
Maria was born August 23, 1937, and raised in Czechoslovakia then at age 16 she moved to the United States of America to be with her mother and stepfather.
After high school, she worked for Progressive Insurance in the clerical department. A few years later she found her dream job with Cleveland Greyhound Station. She began as a payroll clerk and later was promoted to bus route schedule supervisor.
Once Marie retired, she did a lot of volunteer work which included; the International Correspondence Institute in Dallas, Texas helping in their clerical department. The Continental Theological Seminary in Sint Pieter’s Leevw, Belgium where she donated her time working in the library and admissions office. The Maps Missionary in Chiang Mai, Thailand where she helped in the orphanage with cooking and cleaning. Through the years, Maria had been very generous with her time and money, especially when it came to helping people in need.
She was a member of the Faith Fellowship Church in Wheeling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, John Masica; sister, Pauline Masica Murnane; and brother-in-law, Neil McFarland.
Maria is survived by her sister, Anne Alexovich McFarland; brother, Joseph Masica; brother-in-law, Daniel Murnane; nieces and nephews, Tammy McFarland Morrison (Randall) Curry; Scott (Terri) McFarland, Marc (Amy) Murnane, Katherine Murnane and John (Emmanuella) Murnane; great nieces and nephews, Brandon (Cheryl) Morrison, Todd (Courtney) Morrison, Heath McFarland, Leeland Murnane, Bridgeman Murnane, Duke Murnane and Oliver Byler; great-great nieces and nephews, Luke, Mikayla, Nicholas, Kinsley and Owen Morrison.
Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Monday, July 27th from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., with Pastors Brandon White and Kevin Keating officiating. The burial will follow in Chestnut Level Cemetery.
