Obituary

Lois Allender, 81, of Barnesville, Ohio, formerly of Washington, Bentleyville and Hickory, joined her heavenly family Sunday, April 15, 2018, from Carriage Inn Nursing Home, Cadiz, Ohio.

She was born June 27, 1936, in Washington, a daughter of the late Frank and Olive Rowley Blacka.

Lois was a graduate from Washington High School, where she was a majorette. She married Earle William Allender on June 7, 1954, the same day as her graduation. They shared 31 years of marriage.

Together they had four children, Linda (Roy) Lindley of Eighty Four, Luanne Bindas, Susan Rose of Scenery Hill and Earle William Allender Jr., whom they raised in Hickory. Also surviving her are two sisters, Shirley Hammond and Ruth Carl; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She worked at several area department store snack shops and at Bobbie Brooks for several years. As her daughters grew up, she supported them as a Girl Scout leader in Hickory, and also with the drill team and cheer squad at Fort Cherry High School. Helping others with their daily needs was a part of her daily activities.

Lois had two passions. One was sewing, with the most important task making doll clothes for her grandchildren. The other was roller skating, at which she and her partner, Raymond Nester, won several trophies. She and Ray lived in Bentleyville for several years, until his death. Lois continued skating until age 73.

She then moved to Barnesville with her fiancé, Charles Byers. They enjoyed each others company for many years. Charles was a blessing to her, taking care of her until her death.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Earle Allender; two children, Luanne Bindas and Earle William Allender Jr.; her partner, Raymond Nestor; brother William Blacka; and sisters Helen Thompson and Jean Webster.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Thursday, April 19, in Toothman Funeral Home, 141 South Marietta Street, St. Clairsville, Ohio. Burial will follow in Glencoe (Ohio) Cemetery.
