Lily Astrid
Wildey
Jun 29, 1931 — Jul 4, 2026
Lily Astrid Wildey, 95, formerly of Cornwall, Vt. Lily Astrid (née) Geoghegan Wildey was called home to the Lord on July 4, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of John Stephen & Lily (Frank) Lily was the third of four children and raised in Cos Cob and Stamford, CT. She was 95 years old.
Music brought great joy to Lily who learned piano at an early age. Later she gave lessons in her home as she raised her seven children with Clifford, her husband of 65 years. In 1973 the family moved to a small dairy farm in Cornwall, VT and Lily resumed her nursing career at Porter Hospital until her retirement in 1998. Lily had a beautiful soprano voice and loved singing in the choir at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the direction of Dr. Kevin Parizo. Travel abroad to Austria and to the shrine at Medjugorje were high points for her. She and Cliff loved their occasional trips to the Maine coast. In their retirement years they spent winters in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas where she discovered a love and talent for art, and summers in their beloved Vermont where they enjoyed life with their children and grandchildren. For the last several years, she resided with son, Peter and his wife, Heather, in Triadelphia, West Virginia. Lily had a lifelong devotion to God, keen intellect, and strong work ethic. She loved to try new things, like ax throwing at age 89, and had a ready laugh. Even into her 90’s she had a love of rhyming poetry of which she wrote plenty! She will be sorely missed.
Lily is survived by her sister Lois Doherty, her children Cynthia & Robin Looney, Charles & MaryJo (Mroczenski), Kathleen & Dutton Smith, Jr., Barbara & Kendall Severy, Timothy & Lisa (Bolduc) and Peter & Heather (Stewart), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford, sister Edith (Bell), brother John Stephen Geoghegan and her son, Stephen Douglas Wildey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Mary’s Church, Middlebury on a later date.
