Lester Christian Kanzigg, age 83, of Neffs, Ohio passed away Friday evening, September 23, 2016 in Wheeling Hospital. He was born on August 31, 1933 in the family home on Clover Ridge, Ohio.
Lester loved spending time outdoors, hunting, gardening, working on things, but most of all enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was involved for over 30 years in Scouting, community associations, Little League and membership in the NRA. As a result of his dedicated service to Scouting, Lester received the prestigious George Meany Award and the Silver Beaver Award.
Lester was a member of the First Christian Church in St. Clairsville. He was a member of the Laborers Local 1149 for more than 60 years. Lester was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea and is a member of the Korean Veteran's Association.
Lester was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Polivka Kanzigg; a brother, Raymond Kanzigg and his parents, William and Eula Baker Kanzigg.
Lester is survived by two sons, Mark (Tracy) Kanzigg and Wayne Kanzigg; two grandsons, Kyle and Michael Kanzigg; five sisters, Lenora Kocher, Eileen Delaney, Stella Johnson, Margaret Williams and Hazel Brown; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Curtis Hallstrom officiating. Interment follows in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
Military Honors will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
