Laverne "Sonny" Gallaher, 83, of Jacobsburg Ohio died on June 13, 2023 at Liza's Place surrounded by his family. He was born February 20, 1940. He was a member of the Moriah Lodge #105 F & A.M. of Powhatan.
He was the husband of the late Joyce A Gallaher. The father of Douglas Gallaher (Alicia) of Shadyside, Sunni Jo McMahon (Butch) of St. Clairsville, Carla Craig (Terry) of Alledonia, and Michael Gallaher (Eugenia) of Jacobsburg. He had multiple grandchildren: Tyler and Breann Craig, Michael and Savannah Gallaher, Devin McMahon, Ashley (Sean) Lindsey, Mandi Beck, Lillian and Kimber.
He was a coal miner for 40 years with Quarto #7 mine in Clarington, #6, #4 and last employment was Harrison Mining company. He was baptized in Methodist faith and preceded in death by the late Lucile Venham Gallaher-Lasko and the late John Gallaher, he was also preceded in death by his brother Donald and Johnny, sisters, Bernice Baker and Patricia Gallaher. Surviving are his brother Harold (Red) Gallaher, and sister Sandy Materkoski.
Sonny was an avid fisherman back in the day and there wasn't a water hole he wouldn't stop and try. He also enjoyed camping with his family. He was a man based on family values and worked hard to support his family. He held many positions throughout his career and met many people, all of which would call him a friend.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in Jacobsburg, Ohio, on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at Noon with Bishop Michael Tolliver officiating. The burial will follow in Powhatan Cemetery.
There will be a Masonic Funeral Service held at Noon on Saturday in the funeral home.
