Kenneth Gene Carrel, 72, of Belmont, OH passed away Friday, July 15, 2022, at Wheeling Hospital.

He was born July 7, 1950, in Martins Ferry, OH., a son of the late Edward Harold and Jacqueline L. Hays Carrel.

Gene was retired from GEX Hardy Coal Company as a drag-line operator.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of VFW Post 5356 in St. Clairsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie M. Seese Carrel in 2016 and a sister, Sonseeahray Tucker.

Surviving are his children, Renee (Butch) Carr of Rittman, OH., Leslie Cooper of Bethesda, OH., Kenneth (Mary) Carrel of Warnock, OH., Kimberly Ostrander of Shadyside, OH and Zachery (Morgan) Carrel of Flushing; 12 grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday from 4 pm until time of funeral service at 7:30 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with Pastor Kurt Turner officiating.

The committal service and burial will be at the Pleasant Memorial Estates Cemetery in Belmont, WV on Thursday at 1 pm.  Full Military Honors will be conducted graveside by the AMVETS Post 40.
