Kacie Rae Solages, 16, of St. Clairsville, Ohio, died in Wheeling, West Virginia on May 16, from complications associated with cancer.
Kacie was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on June 25, 1998. She is the daughter of Stan Solages of Columbus, Ohio, and Adam and Amanda Yates of St. Clairsville, Ohio. She leaves behind five siblings; Lexi Solages, Hannah Yates, Caroline Yates, Natalie O'Donnell, and Dawson Yates, all of St. Clairsville; two guinea pigs, Winston and Dash; her dog Ralph and cat Oliver; and countless family and friends. Kacie was a member of Victory Baptist Chapel in St. Clairsville. She loved animals and dreamed of someday becoming a zookeeper.
Kacie was diagnosed with an extremely rare abdominal sarcoma in May 2013. During her treatment she endured multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation all of which took its toll on her body. She suffered daily because of this illness, but throughout her treatment Kacie inspired numerous people due to her strong Christian faith and perseverance. She wanted to give up many times, but her love for family and friends fueled her determination and kept her fighting no matter how difficult the road was. When hearing the news her cancer had spread and treatments would no longer be effective Kacie made the courageous decision to forgo any further treatments so she could spend time at home with family and friends.
