Joseph L. Yudasz, 81, of St. Clairsville, died Saturday, August 19, 2006 at his home with his family by his side. Joe was known by his family and friends as "Pappy Joe", "Farmer Joe", "Brother Joe" and "Uncle Joe".
Joseph was born December 4, 1924 in Crescent, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Valeria Budziach Yudasz.
He was a retired farmer and U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Seabees. Joe was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Maynard; member of the American Legion Post # 666 in Maynard; Knights of Columbus honorary member, a member of Maynard PNA Lodge # 455; member of the Fairpoint Polish Club, a member of the VFW Post # 8848 in Colerain; member of the Belmont County Farm Bureau and a member of the Saints Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Yudasz; and four sisters, Mary Turkaly, Anna Gazdik, Stella Marma and Frances Antolak.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Rose Vicker Yudasz; two sons, Joseph "Butch" (Barb) Yudasz and James "Jim" (Lisa) Yudasz both of St. Clairsville; two daughters, Janet (Kent) Cattran and Paula (Al) Bigelow both of St. Clairsville; a brother, Richard Yudasz of St. Clairsville; three sisters, Sophie Antolak and Betty Holubeck both of St. Clairsville and Victoria Shipta of Parma, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Karolyn (Lance) Porter, Adam Yudasz, Nicole, Derek and Brianne Cattran, Sara, Michael and Zachary Bigelow, Adelyna and Joseph Yudasz; a great grandson, David Bailey Porter; many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church in Maynard on Tuesday at 10 a.m., with Father Thomas Graven the celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Pleasant Grove.
A Knights of Columbus service is scheduled on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. There will be a PNA service at 3:15 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home followed by a vigil service at 4 p.m. There will also be an American Legion service on Monday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Full military honors will be conducted on Tuesday at the cemetery by the Belmont County Council of American Legions.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Stanislaus Church, the St. Mary?s School or a fire department of the donors choice.
