Joseph G. Vargo, 88, of Neffs, Ohio, died Friday, June 8, 2007 at his home.
He was born July 1, 1918 in Provident, Ohio a son of the late Joseph and Mary Bujka Vargo.
Joe was a retired coal miner. He was a U. S. Army Infantry veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of the Coalbrook Presbyterian Church at Neffs and a member of the Ionic Lodge # 438 F. & A.M. in Bellaire.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Kalan Vargo; four brothers, Alex, Steve, John and George Vargo; and a sister, Velma Boggs.
Surviving are his son, Donald J. Vargo and his wife Kay of Maryland; two grandsons, Steven J. Vargo and his wife Julie of Virginia and Daniel E. Vargo and his wife Jenny of Florida; a great granddaughter, Olivia; a daughter-in-law, Penny Vargo of Maryland; two sisters, Helen Kanopsic and Emma Kurucz both of St. Clairsville.
Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Demarest officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville. Masonic Services will be held on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Coalbrook Presbyterian Church or the Neffs Volunteer Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
