John A. Vannest, 87, of St. Clairsville, Ohio passed away Monday, November 16, 2020 at Forest Hills Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on March 20, 1933 in Glencoe, Ohio, son of the late Fred and Emily (Kennedy) Vannest.
John was a graduate of St. Clairsville High School. He was hired by Columbia Gas of Ohio and worked his way up to Manager for the company until his retirement. He was also an elected Richland Township Trustee for twenty years.
John served and was a member of the Weyer Lodge #541, Centerville Ohio, Scottish Rite, Cambridge Ohio, Osiris Shrine, Legion of Honor Osiris Shrine (Commander) Royal Order of Jesters #13, Eastern Star, Centerville Ohio, Bel-Mon Shrine Club, St. Clairsville Saints Club where he served as President, Fairpoint Polish Club and his greatest membership was being part of the American Legion Post #159.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Doris (Beam) Vannest and his two brothers Sam Vannest and James Vannest.
John is survived by his two sons which were his pride and joy: Jeffrey Allen Vannest and his wife Dorothy of St. Clairsville, Scott Louis Vannest and his wife Georgia of Bellaire.
He was "Pap" to Michael Jeffrey Vannest and his wife Kayla of Pickerinton, OH, Tessa Lynn Corcoran and her husband Mike of Bristow, VA, Tyler Scott Vannest of Mingo Junction,OH and Chad Louis Vannest of Newport, KY. John was "Great Pap" to Charles Jeffrey and Piper Beatrice Corcoran of Bristow, VA. He also is leaving behind two special family members Mary Harley and Reverend Erica Harley; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Friday, November 20, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Private Services will be held for family on Saturday, conducted by Reverend Erica Harley. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Post #159, 100 Legion Rd., St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
