John James "Jack" Spano, Sr., 73, of Midway, Ohio died March 29, 2016 at home.
He was born November 18, 1942 in Lafferty, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph Spano Sr. and Catherine Surufka Spano.
Jack was retired from Wheeling Township. He was a Catholic by faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran; a member of the Fairpoint Polish Club and enjoyed attending car shows.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Spano Jr. and Richard J. Spano and two sisters, Mary Bishop and infant sister, Shirley Spano.
Surviving are his wife, Joan E. Jaskowiak Spano; a son, John (Cindy Staskey) Spano of Midway; two daughters, Jeanne (Jeff) Mottle of St. Clairsville and Joy (Tim) Strahl of Wheeling; four grandchildren, Janessa Mottle, Jarrett Mottle, Janelle Robson and Paul Graham; a great granddaughter, Aubri Robson; four brothers, George Spano and Frank Spano both of Flushing, Willard Spano of Indiana and Albert Spano of New Athens; two sisters, Catherine Kovacs of Lafferty and Cindy (Rick) Sykes of Barnesville; several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., where services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Thomas Chillog officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove.
The Belmont County Veterans Association will conduct Full Military Honor Services on Friday in the cemetery.
