Simmons, John A. Sr., 89, of Los Angeles, California, died Saturday, August 29, 2009 in West Hills Hospital, West Hills, California.

He was born in Byesville, Ohio on November 6, 1919, son of the late Thomas and Margaret Cooper Simmons.

John was retired from Marx Toy Factory in Glen Dale, West Virginia.
He was a member of Harbor of Hope Assembly of God in St. Clairsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Mort Simmons in 1976; his wife Virginia Applegarth Simmons in 2009 and he was the last of his immediate family.

He is survived by his children, John A. Simmons Jr. whom he resided with for the last 3 years in Los Angeles, California and Jill Keefer of Washington, Pennsylvania.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, where services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
