John Paul Mort, 80, of St. Clairsville, OH passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Wheeling Hospital.  He was born June 12, 1941, in Lafferty, OH., a son of the late Douglas Earl and Pearl Naomi Bennington Mort, Sr.

John was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation and a Christian by faith.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army.  He loved old cars and working in his garage.  He was the best Husband, Father and best Pappy to his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Dixie Simmons, Judy Nation, Donna Huntsman; brothers, Douglas "Jim" Mort, Jr., Pat Mort, Roger Mort; several nephews.

Surviving are his loving wife Shirley J. Turley Mort and a daughter, Lynne (Daniel) Fortuna both of Uniontown; two sisters, Gloria McCreary of Mineral City, OH and Patricia Cook of Uniontown; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Stephen) Carkhuff and Alyssa (Andrew) Ingram; great-grandchildren, Raelynn and Delilah Carkhuff and Anderson Ingram; several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday from 10 am until time of services at 12 pm at Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville with with Pastor Dustin Deike officiating. Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove, OH.  Full Military Honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
