Matis, John J., 91, of St. Clairsville, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009 in Country Club Retirement Center, Bellaire.

He was born in Maynard, Ohio on March 27, 1918, son of the late John Anthony Matis and Mary Benitz Matis.

John was a retired employee from Saginaw Mining Company. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Catholic by faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda J. Matis; brothers, George and Mike Matis and his twin brother Joseph Matis; and a sister, Helen Terribury.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Irma Kalan Matis; three sisters, Madelyn Melet of St. Clairsville, Ann (William) Doleski of Lansing and Rose (Jack) Timko of Barton, Ohio; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Family and friends will be received at the Toothman Funeral Home, St. Clairsville on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m., with Father Thomas Graven officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, St. Clairsville.
