John Michael Markis, 81, of St. Clairsville, Ohio died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in Wheeling Hospital.

He was born June 3, 1937 in Wheeling, West Virginia, son of the late Michael and Valentine Vlahos Markis.

John was retired co-owner and operator of John and Carol's Beauty Haven, a former owner of Jon's Styling Salon and a meat cutter from the IGA in Bridgeport and Barnesville and retired from Sam's Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of St. John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Wheeling, a member of AHEPA of Wheeling, the Saints Club in St. Clairsville and a former St. Clairsville Jaycees.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son, Michael Markis.

Surviving are his loving wife, Carol Shimble Markis; a daughter, Michele (Pete) Schramm of St. Clairsville and a grandson, Nickolas Michael Schramm.

Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville on Saturday from 2 p.m. until time of services at 6 p.m. with Father Thomas Chillog officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
