John M. Madzia, 77, of Flushing, Ohio, formerly South Carolina, died June 2, 2016 at the home of his son.
He was born August 17, 1938 in Adena, Ohio, a son of the late Joseph and Susan Melchioris Madzia.
John was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Martins Ferry Plant. He was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church; a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a member of the VFW in South Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Cathren Calhoun Madzia; two brothers, James and Ted Madzia and a sister, Helen Kidd.
Surviving are his children, Edna "Angel" Hines of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Doug Madzia of Flushing, Ohio and Sam Madzia of Elmwood, Tennessee; two brothers, Joseph Madzia Jr. of Brewster, Ohio and Charles "Bill" Madzia of Norwalk, Ohio; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 3:45 p.m.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at St. Frances Cabrini Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Timothy McGuire the celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Pleasant Grove.
The Belmont County Veterans Association will conduct Full Military Honor Services on Monday in the cemetery.
